The District Community Development Centres (DCDC) are a key initiative of the Department for Community Development and Religion in Papua New Guinea. These centres aim to address social and economic issues directly at the district level, providing targeted services and support to communities. The DCDCs are part of a broader strategy to empower vulnerable groups and strengthen communities through policies, programs, and services. They are designed to be the face of the department in the districts, bridging service delivery and ensuring that resources and personnel are concentrated at the local level. The DCDCs are expected to deliver impactful services and contribute to the sustainable development of the country.

The Department for Community Development and Religion’s Corporate Plan (2023-2027), themed “Going Rural – Building Equitable, Knowledgeable, and Productive Families for a Sustainable Future,” focuses on empowering vulnerable groups and strengthening communities through targeted policies, programs, and services. Key initiatives include establishing District Community Development Centres (DCDC) and revitalizing Community Learning and Development Centres (CLDC) to deliver impactful services directly to districts and wards. By aligning with the Government’s decentralization agenda, the Department ensures that resources and personnel are concentrated at the local level, fostering equitable and inclusive development.
The Department’s new website plays a pivotal role in realizing this vision by serving as a central platform for information, collaboration, and accountability. It provides communities and stakeholders with access to vital resources, progress updates on the Corporate Plan, and opportunities to engage in partnerships for sustainable development. The website ensures transparency, enhances communication, and empowers local leaders and organizations to fully leverage DCDC and CLDC services, ultimately bridging the gap between the Department’s goals and on-the-ground implementation.
