Ms. Kambanei is actively involved in implementing and transitioning from the National GBV Strategy (2016–2025) to the new strategy for 2026–2035, helping to guide policy direction, coordination, and stakeholder engagement across government, civil society, and development partners.
Under her leadership, the Secretariat is rolling out Basic Counselling Trainings in provinces such as East Sepik, Madang, and Bougainville to build frontline capacity in survivor-centered care, ethical practice, referral pathways, and trauma-informed support. These trainings aim to help achieve targets such as 60% counselling access for survivors by 2027 and contribute to establishing 80 safe houses nationwide.
Ms. Kambanei has represented PNG’s GBV response on the international stage, including at events like the 5th World Conference of Women’s Shelters (5WCWS) in Australia, where she engaged with global practitioners to benchmark and strengthen shelter and safe house systems in PNG.
She emphasises the importance of safe houses and coordinated support systems, working with government bodies and partners to expand and improve services that protect survivors of GBV and ensure dignity and equity.
